St. Mary's Church Hall
 |
The primary purposes of the church hall are to provide a venue for children to worship and learn on Sundays, and also for church gatherings. Having said this, the hall is nowadays a multi-purpose community hall and church usage is in the minority.
The main weekday user is the St Mary's Under Fives playgroup which provides pre-school learning activity for small children.
Contact Alison Selby on 511128 or Paul Smyth on 512549 if you would like to consider hiring the hall. |
The main hall is accessed through double wooden doors straight ahead in the picture above. The entrance is steps-free to provide easy access for wheel-chair users. The hall also has a toilet room fitted out for the use of diabled persons.

As well as the main hall, there is an Upstairs Meeting Room for hire with its own kitchenette (no oven or hob upstairs) |
This part of the hall complex is an old terraced cottage called Church Cottage and is accessed via a separate front door which opens directly onto Silverless Street. The Silverless Street door leads through a small downstairs room (see below) which can also be used as a third small meeting room.
Equipment storage space is provided for regular users of the hall.
The hall is not much used on Saturdays and Sunday afternoon/evenings and is available for children's parties etc at very reasonable rates.
The church hall is run by a sub-committee of St Mary's PCC with the objective of running the hall as a self-sustaining asset for the benefit of both church and community. Hiring fees are set so that the PCC should only fund the running costs pro-rata to its usage e.g. for Junior Church, bearing in mind that the PCC has raised money to fund major improvements in the past.
CONDITIONS OF HIRING
Hirers are requested to leave the hall tidy, free of rubbish and clean; In other words as they found it (or better). Hirers are responsible for turning out lights and locking up. Hirers are expected to work co-operatively and with due consideration to other hirers when there is a rapid change-round time between hirers.
Any damage should be reported to the bookings secretary so that it can be repaired promptly.
The Hall is not available for activities which conflict with Church of England ethics; in particular it will not be hired out for gambling and associated activities.
Because of the residential nature of its environs, it will not be hired out for noisy activities, in particular teenage parties.
