Praying Daily

Starting the Day

Focus on normal steady breathing.

Repeat slowly the ‘Prayer to start the day’

Think about the day’s events and appointments; ask God to help you to  ‘do everything in the name of Jesus …’

Pray the Lord’s Prayer. Try saying it slowly.

Prayer can continue in a number of ways, e.g.

· TSP (teaspoon prayer): Thanks, Sorry, Please

· 5 finger prayer: Index finger – for people who guide/help us

                          Middle finger – for leaders

Ring finger -  for those in need

                         Little finger – ourselves

Thumb – the most important people/things in our lives

· ACTS: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication

During the Day

Practise the presence of God e.g.

Trigger prayers – in a queue, pray for people who have to wait; turning on a tap, pray for those who can’t; hearing a siren, pray for the emergency; reading a magazine, pray for those who can’t read; after a phone call, pray for the person you’ve just spoken to.

Pray as you walk – to work, to school, to the shops, with the dog: bring God into what’s on your mind.  Keep a little hand held cross in your pocket/bag.

End of the Day

Think back over the day: run through the day like a video and freeze frame the emotional ‘hot spots’, turning the memory into thanksgiving, or apology, or prayer for someone.

Pray the ‘Prayer at the end of the day’
