Giving to Other Organisations
St Mary's Church Marlborough aims to “tithe” its normal income on an annual basis.
The tithe arising from larger legacies (which may need to be held in reserve for special projects) is normally be given to missionary work in the year it is spent rather than the year it is received.
The giving is divided 50/50 between organisations preaching the Gospel and Christian organisations undertaking good works. It is also be divided between local, national and overseas organisations.
CMS, USPG and the Church in the Sudan are supported on a continuing basis. Other organisations can expect to receive money for a maximum of seven years, of which the final two years' grants taper by 50% per year.
The Mission Committee invites bids for grants after Easter, for consideration at a meeting in June.
The recommendations of the Mission Committee goes to the PCC for approval before money is sent out in the autumn.
